Color story: Chartreuse, lime green, and apple green

One of our favorite color palettes is inspired by the brilliant 'Chartreuse, lime green, apple green' …or whatever you want to call it! This color has been on our radar for the past few summers with some of our most memorable weddings featuring chartreuse as either their main or accent color. Chartreuse was the focus of our client's vision and brought the wedding design to vibrant life, so we'd like to help you do the same!

Chartreuse is a bold color and by using this vibrant shade you're sure to leave an impression on your guests. Chartreuse can be used in a variety of ways, including bridesmaid dresses, table decor, floral arrangements or on top of your cake! Elements for those who enjoy small color splashes may include one of our favorites, colored shoes. Colored shoes are a fun way for a bride to add personality to her traditional white dress.

Your color palette can be a combination of shades ranging from neutral to pastel. First, we recommend getting really familiar with the focal points of your wedding space, since the existing colors of your venue can greatly influence your them. Additionally, your wedding colors  create the emotional tone of your wedding. Chartreuse created a romantic, high-energy mood for our bride's weddings, all of which were memorable affairs. We hope that choosing your wedding colors is a fun experience and that chartreuse may come as an inspiration!

Sarah and Bill’s wedding: Baker Cabin Pioneer Church and Wild Bill’s Casino

We were pleased to work again in August with Lenny and Bob of Studio 98, this time for a wedding at Baker Cabin Pioneer Church in Canby, Oregon; and reception following at Wild Bill's Casino in NE Portland.  The ceremony had a traditional country wedding atmosphere, with Rev. Kevin Yell presiding.

While the bride and groom took photos around town, the guests moved on to the Oasis Room at Wild Bill's for a Las Vegas-themed reception and barbecue buffet from Buster's Texas BBQ

Sarah wrote to us afterwards, “My parents thought you did great and they loved how the whole thing reflected my personality, staying true to who I am. I still can't believe how well it turned out.” Congratulations again, to Sarah and Bill!

Also, many thanks to these partners in collaboration: Flowers: Studio Del Fiore, Music: Notes of Celebration, DJ: Wild Bill's in-house, Videography: Solstice Video, Transportation: Lucky Limousine (inbound), bride and groom's classic car (getaway)

{ Attire tips } Can I mix ivory and white at my wedding?

Today's tip is not just an attire tip, but it also touches on overall wedding design and colors.

I get a lot of clients every year who ask me if they can wear an ivory gown but have white tablecloths, and vice versa.  Or if they can use ivory and white on the same surface, for example, white tablecloths and ivory plates.  We receive so many inquiries like this that we decided to address it here on the blog at Portland Wedding Coordinator.

Some people seem to think that there is an etiquette or protocol issue at work here, but I have done some initial research at the Peggy Post and Martha Stewart sites, and to date have not yet found anything etiquette-related, except a reminder to guests not to wear white or ivory to a wedding.

So my feeling is that it boils down to your personal style and what you feel comfortable with.

Do you need wedding insurance?

Wedding insurance–nobody seems really excited to talk about it, since it means bringing up the possibility of less-than-happy events occurring around what's supposed to be a totally blissful day.  However, I recently had an event that reminded me that it is something we should all be talking about. A client called to tell me that a completely freak accident had landed her father-in-law to be in the hospital, the day before the wedding. There was no way the wedding could proceed as planned.

Aside from something happening in your family that might cause your wedding to be postponed, many wedding and event cancellation insurers also provide protection in case a wedding vendor goes out of business, or if weather prevents the day from going as planned.  Bottom line is – take a look at your total investment in the wedding day.  You insure your car and your house, right? If your wedding day is anywhere near as important or as much of an investment as those items, then consider insurance.

Wedding insurance is just like reserving a tent for backup when you have an outdoor wedding, or carrying an umbrella in case of rain.  A couple of sites offering this service are wedsafe.com and protectmywedding.comGales Creek, a local Portland company, provides wedding liability insurance, and may also provide cancellation insurance.  You should also check with your own insurance broker to figure out which product is right for you. Understand the difference between liability insurance and cancellation insurance.

I hope you'll consider getting wedding insurance; at the same time I also hope you'll never have to use it!

{ Real Portland Wedding } A big red party at The Portland Art Museum

I feel bad that we haven't been updating so much lately … I can't believe the whole month of April went by without a peep.  But my excuse is that we've been working so hard for our clients.  One of them, Sarah and Daren, just had their wedding on April 26.  I can't believe it's over and I am actually sad that we won't be talking as often anymore!  Sarah is actually an event planner herself and was responsible for a HUGE event and fundraiser for a contractors' association in the Portland area.  So it was extremely flattering when she asked EJP Events to be her wedding coordinator.

She came to us with some amazing ideas for a big red party, and really let us take it and run with it.  We had so much fun, and hope the bride, groom, family, and guests did too.

This post wouldn't be complete without mentioning some of the amazing people we worked with: Geranium Lake Flowers, Royce's Prop Shop, The Bridal Loft and Vibrant Table Catering.

But enough talking, I know you want to see the photos!  Here are a few, courtesy of Melissa Jill, the photographer who flew in from Arizona just to shoot the event.

With Melissa's permission, we also asked our friend Robert McNary to stop by during setup and shoot some reception details. A couple are below.
