back in the u.s. of a.

So, it’s no news flash that the dollar is kind of tanking right now.  What does that mean for your honeymoon?  It means that a bottled water in Paris is eight dollars – ouch!  It also means that U.S. honeymoon locations are looking really good right now.

Why be a pauper in Paris when you can be stylin’ in some of these hip, hot destinations:

– Austin, TX

The live music capital of the world has a laid-back vibe similar to Portland, but much better weather in the winter.  The Texas Hill Country offers outdoor activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, and hiking.  Splurge and stay at the Four Seasons, or go indie and stay at the Hotel San Jose.  (I had to give the Four Seasons a plug because they are so nice there, especially Claire in the weddings department.)
Ojai Valley Inn and Spa
– Santa Barbara, CA
Another lovely, laid-back town with the best that California has to offer.  Sand, sun, an artsy vibe, and plenty of restaurants and shopping.  Only 30 minutes away is the world-famous Ojai Valley Resort and Spa, where you and your honey can picnic in the lavender fields and get tandem massages in their beautiful spa.

– Napa Valley/Sonoma, CA
One more plug for California, this time the northern part, a paradise for food and wine lovers.  See what all the fuss is about at The French Laundry, or stay at Auberge de Soleil, The Kenwood Inn, or Solage.

Hope this gives you a few ideas.  Remember, there’s always your first anniversary for Italy and France!
