Allison & Michael’s wedding at Kruger Farm, photos by Evrim Icoz

Evrim Icoz, a Portland-based photographer, just sent us a few wonderful photos of a wedding we coordinated this past September at Kruger Farm on Sauvie Island.  Here are a couple of our favorites:

What’s your emergency plan?

Emergency-300x199Recently, at summer’s end, we had the pleasure of hanging out with the crew from Hybrid Moon for a little get-together at PGE Park.  Also there were our friends Holly from Hitched Weddings and Events, Monica from Divine Designs, Jill from The Sidewalk Studio, and Eric from All Wright Music.

We were enjoying the warm weather (sigh — it seems so long ago), a few hot dogs and brews, and supporting our Portland Beavs as they were being trounced by the Tacoma Rainiers, when suddenly, all the lights in the ballpark went out.  I could see the MAX train going by up on the hill, and it stopped as well.  All the streetlights were out too.

Smile! it’s Selphy.

I'm fascinated with the new Selphy models you can find at Compact Photo Printers – Canon USA Consumer Products.  These mobile photo printers look like they'd be perfect for an event or wedding.  I wonder if these will take the place of the Polaroid instamatic camera, since film was discontinued earlier this year? Anyone have feedback on how well they work?

what not to wear to your wedding

Index-crystal I’m a big fan of What Not to Wear on TLC.  I love the transformation the show’s guests undergo from beginning to end.  A wedding can be a lot like that, where we go from the everyday, to the once-in-a-lifetime, on every level, including the bride’s look.

So I was so excited to hear that they were doing a wedding edition of the show: how fun! to see Stacy and Clinton work their magic on a bride.

And even cooler — I’ve found that this same service (minus the embarrassment of having to be on national TV) is available right here in Portland, from Inspire Style Coaching.  Jandi and her team will come to you, take measurements and do a style interview, to help you find the exact kind of dress that will work best with your body type.  No more guesswork and relying on salespeople to figure out what is going to look great; the Inspire Style methodology is an art and a science in itself.  The stylists will even go shopping with you, directing you to the right stores and boutiques that carry the exact look you’re shooting for.

For most people, the wedding dress is a huge part of the day — and a huge part of the stress!  How cool that there is a service like Inspire Style for those of us who don’t have Stacy and Clinton!

try it on

TryonYou would never walk into a store, grab a dress off the rack, pay for it and walk out, would you?  No, you would try it on first!  Especially if it was for an important occasion.

The same should apply for your wedding day!  After witnessing a couple of “wardrobe malfunctions” this summer, bride and groom alike, I have to remind you all:  Please try on your gown or tux before you take it home for the last time!

Yes, you may have had several fittings.  But things can happen between the last fitting and the final pickup.  You could have shed (or stacked) a few pounds.  The seamstress could make a mistake.  The tux supplier could have packed an incorrect vest size.

Open that bag BEFORE you leave the store, and try it on one last time.  Or at least once you get it home.  You do not want to open that bag on the day of the wedding to find out that something is missing or wrong.  It’s so much easier to make corrections or adjustments when you’re not under the gun.

tupai at andina!

So right after our last post about rehearsal dinner ideas, we were lucky enough to wind up atAndina for the Oregon ABC monthly meeting.  This recent Restaurant of the Year winner (2005, Willamette Week) now has developed several private dining spaces and is ready for bridal luncheons, pre-wedding parties, rehearsal dinners, or even small weddings.  We were so charmed by the place we had to let you know about it.
