Idea of the day – LED light letters

LED-light-letters
Happy October! We are lucky in Portland that summer still seems to be holding on, in the afternoons at least. Makes me want to blog all the past warm-weather goodness from the last few months! One great idea we saw at a September wedding we coordinated, was a "BAR" backdrop sign designed by René Steelman of RK Steelman Events and Interiors (also mother of the groom!). It's always so flattering when event pros themselves hire us.

I loved this idea to create a "name in lights" using battery-operated LED tealights. No cords needed! René chose chevron fabric and pink rickrack which she mounted to a board. Then added embellishments like tiny mirrors with more tealights, pink flowers in test tubes, and of course, the letters. More pictures from this fun wedding are on our Facebook page.

Hope this gets your creative juices flowing – do let me know if you've seen or heard any great design ideas at weddings in Portland or beyond; email me at The Portland Wedding Coordinator or comment below.

Lovely wedding photos at McMenamins Edgefield by Fritz Photo

Fritz-photo-shutterbug-march-2011
A while back, Shutterbug Magazine featured a photographer we’ve been working with for a very long time: Fritz Liedtke of Fritz Photo. We were super happy for him, and additionally thrilled that the magazine chose a photo from one of our own clients, whose wedding was held at McMenamins Edgefield.

Here are a few more photos from this lovely Edgefield wedding that took place at Edgefield’s Blackberry Meadow and adjoining Hall. A full blog post about the wedding is on Fritz’s blog here. Enjoy!

{ Portland Wedding Coordinator loves…} Weddings on the MAX Light Rail

Wedding-on-MAX-light-rail-portland

Portland couples love to showcase the city for their guests, and for their wedding day to reflect all things truly Portland. So we love it when they show their eco-chic loyalty on their wedding day and make sure to ride the MAX to the wedding. (Bonus: no worries about indulging in cocktails at the reception, you have a ride home as long as you get on before the last train!) Lovely client Lisa chose to have her ceremony at World Forestry Center and reception at The Oregon Zoo.  Guests and bridal party stayed downtown at Hotel Monaco, and Lisa and her ladies had a fun adventure getting to the ceremony via the MAX light rail.

Don’t forget about beautiful indoor weddings in Portland

Today’s gorgeous March weather reminds us we are moving closer and closer to summer wedding season. Outdoor weddings and ceremonies are always big in Portland and throughout Oregon. But for various reasons, not everyone wants an outdoor wedding. Perhaps they’re looking for a more formal design. Perhaps they want dancing and a huge band until midnight, which would get you in trouble with the neighbors (and the law) at an outdoor wedding. So this week’s post is dedicated to a short roundup of some gorgeous indoor wedding locations in Portland.

All weddings coordinated by EJP Events.

An Oregon Garden Wedding Inspiration for a Stylish Manhattan Bride

I was so excited to be contacted by another out-of-towner this week who will be planning her Oregon summer wedding, working long-distance from Manhattan. Her big priorities are food and photography. She sent along a few photos of her intended style and I thought I would go through our past event file to put together a few photos to  convey my initial thought process for site selection and other possible details. Here goes:

Curtis and Sarah, A Portland Wedding at Mt. Tabor Park and the Ace Hotel

We recently received these lovely pictures from David Barss, one of our favorite photographers who always without fail sends us a disk and a link after the wedding (hint, hint 😉 )

Curtis and Sarah married at the Mt. Tabor Summit, a Portland Parks site. Often folks are wary of public parks sites and wonder if they are safe, if strangers will interrupt the wedding, if the facility will be clean. All I can tell you is about my experience as a coordinator, and that is, with good pre-planning, a public parks site can be a wonderful and unique venue; and that members of the public in the overwhelming number of cases are respectful of a wedding.  I personally have not encountered any problems at the weddngs I have had in public parks sites such as Mt. Tabor, Council Crest Park, Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, and many others.

So consider that public parks site that you may have overlooked!

Thanks again to David Barss Photographer for the photographs.
