putting the local spirit in your wedding

Aviation_gin

I had the opportunity to visit with a catering company owner at a fall tasting and open house the other day, and we started chatting about the popular requests for locally sourced food items on wedding menus.

So why not booze?  I've noticed many wedding bars stocked with Grey Goose, Absolut, Maker's Mark, and the like… all very well and good, but with all the amazing distilleries we have right here in the Portland area, why miss this opportunity?

Here's a list of local distilleries just to get you started, I'm sure there are more.  If you think of one that I haven't mentioned, please add it to the comments!

Smile! it’s Selphy.

I'm fascinated with the new Selphy models you can find at Compact Photo Printers – Canon USA Consumer Products.  These mobile photo printers look like they'd be perfect for an event or wedding.  I wonder if these will take the place of the Polaroid instamatic camera, since film was discontinued earlier this year? Anyone have feedback on how well they work?

daily candy’s fall wedding guides are out!

I just love DailyCandy, don't you?  And they just put out their fall wedding guides for cities from San Francisco to New York, as well as the "Everywhere" guide.  Some great tips (red and white sangrias, yes!) and some, maybe not-so-good (scrapping a DJ in favor of laptop playlist, ummmm…) but taken as a whole, an entertaining read and a fun trip around the States to some great websites for your ideas.

what not to wear to your wedding

Index-crystal I’m a big fan of What Not to Wear on TLC.  I love the transformation the show’s guests undergo from beginning to end.  A wedding can be a lot like that, where we go from the everyday, to the once-in-a-lifetime, on every level, including the bride’s look.

So I was so excited to hear that they were doing a wedding edition of the show: how fun! to see Stacy and Clinton work their magic on a bride.

And even cooler — I’ve found that this same service (minus the embarrassment of having to be on national TV) is available right here in Portland, from Inspire Style Coaching.  Jandi and her team will come to you, take measurements and do a style interview, to help you find the exact kind of dress that will work best with your body type.  No more guesswork and relying on salespeople to figure out what is going to look great; the Inspire Style methodology is an art and a science in itself.  The stylists will even go shopping with you, directing you to the right stores and boutiques that carry the exact look you’re shooting for.

For most people, the wedding dress is a huge part of the day — and a huge part of the stress!  How cool that there is a service like Inspire Style for those of us who don’t have Stacy and Clinton!
