{ Attire Tips } Try It On!

Dress-fitting-seamstress-alterations

You would never walk into a store, grab a dress off the rack, pay for it and walk out, would you?  No, you would try it on first!  Especially if it was for an important occasion.

The same should apply for your wedding day!  After witnessing a couple of “wardrobe malfunctions” this summer, bride and groom alike, I have to remind you all:  Please try on your gown or tux before you take it home for the last time!

Yes, you may have had several fittings.  But things can happen between the last fitting and the final pickup.  You could have shed (or stacked) a few pounds.  The seamstress could make a mistake.  The tux supplier could have packed an incorrect vest size.

Open that bag BEFORE you leave the store, and try it on one last time.  Or at least once you get it home. You do not want to open that bag on the day of the wedding to find out that something is missing or wrong.  It’s so much easier to make corrections or adjustments when you’re not under the gun.

Don’t forget about beautiful indoor weddings in Portland

The recent sunny May weather reminds us we are moving closer and closer to summer wedding season. But of course, we had a huge rain shower last night as well. Outdoor weddings and ceremonies are always big in Portland and throughout Oregon. But for various reasons, not everyone wants an outdoor wedding. Maybe they don’t want the stress of thinking about a weather back up. Perhaps they’re looking for a more formal design. Perhaps they want dancing and a huge band until midnight, which would get you in trouble with the neighbors (and the law) at an outdoor wedding. So this week’s post is dedicated to a short roundup of some gorgeous indoor wedding locations in Portland, so you can get married in style all year long.

All weddings coordinated by EJP Events. If you have any questions about these locations, or any of the other hundreds of wedding venues we’ve worked, please shoot us an email!

Many thanks to Craig Mitchelldyer, Robert McNary, Holland Studios, Fritz Photography, and Jessica Shepard for providing the photos.

The Barr Mansion in Austin, TX – Just realizing that this May, it will be FIFTEEN YEARS that I have been at EJP Events. The thought has been at the back of my mind for a while, but stumbling across this Barr Mansion (where I coordinated my very first wedding as an independent planner) wedding on Green Wedding Shoes, really made things hit home. I am so grateful for every wedding I have had the honor of working with, and so grateful for all the many service providers who have supported me and my sometimes wacky ideas. I’ll be posting more thoughts with the hashtag #ejp15 and I invite anyone who has thoughts and memories to post with the #ejp15 on any social network — past brides especially — or, please email me and send in your memories. These bell jars / cloches – Just loving the way they set off the florals and details for this science-themed wedding. Photo by The Nichols via Green Wedding Shoes.

Tiny tacos. Who wouldn’t love a tiny taco! Why not try one for your wedding cocktail hour, or late night snacks, perhaps with a signature margarita? Photo via the Beverly Hills Hotel Instagram feed.

It is most definitely spring, and this Apartment Therapy post shows us some ingenious ways to bring spring into your home, and I got some great ideas for unusual ways to arrange flowers at a wedding as well!

Check out the back detail on this Anna Campbell gown, via the Everthine Bridal Instagram feed. (I just love Instagram as a place to see ideas and inspiration – it’s almost eclipsed Pinterest for me.)

{ Portland Wedding Coordinator’s} Top Wedding Trends for 2014

2014-wedding-trends-info-list
2014 is roaring in and we are so excited to see what this year’s couples are planning for their wedding designs. Here are some wedding trends we hear are going to be super-hot in Portland, from our own clients and also talking with colleagues around town:

Interactive art walls or art installations. So fun we had to do a whole post about it, read here. We even had one couple grab all the art off the walls of their own home and display it during cocktail hour, creating an art gallery atmosphere.

{ The Daily Reblog } Tips for a Disability-Friendly Wedding, from Offbeat Bride

Having a wedding is stressful enough. Add in health issues and different physical abilities, and the normal four- to eight-hour long celebration can prove to be a real strain. That’s why I’m so glad I stumbled across this blog post from Offbeat Bride that gives some great pointers to think about, from the bride’s point of view.

We also have a post from a while back, about checking for accessibility issues at your wedding venue, so all of your guests can enjoy the festivities. You’ll find it here: Accessibility in a Wedding Venue

Are you making any specific accommodations for yourself or your guests at your wedding? How did you get what you needed from your venue or vendors? Please share in the comments.
