How time flies! Beth and Sachin were married last summer in the Columbia River Gorge. Many thanks to Evrim Icoz for capturing the day through these photographs.

The wedding weekend kicked off with a Friday evening rehearsal dinner at Multnomah Falls Lodge, followed by a welcome event at the hotel featuring local Oregon and Washington bourbon, beer, and wine tastings; mehndi hand painting by Amrapali Boutique, and lots of treats including s’mores around the fire and cuisine provided by Skamania Lodge catering. Northwest Navigator was on hand to make it easy for guests to get around the Gorge.

Saturday, everyone was up early for beauty and preparations. Family and friends shared in both traditional Hindu wedding rites and a non-denominational Christian ceremony.  The cocktail hour was held in a quiet garden patio area, and followed by the wedding dinner reception and dancing a meadow lit with twinkling lights and adorned with bright flowers and vintage details.

How to have a car-free wedding

Couples want to be environmentally conscious and use sustainable methods and services for their weddings. A get-together of so many people can create a great deal of carbon load and waste, and consequently, most of our clients want to reduce and offset this burden. We see a lot of couples choosing sustainably farmed foods, vegan and vegetarian menus, and using flowers and decor that are locally sourced and not creating undue waste, so why not take the next logical step and reduce fossil fuel dependency?

Conferences, conventions, and meetings have been stressing the importance of public transit and reducing the number or cars at an event for many years, but it’s taken a while to catch on for social events. Thankfully in Portland, with transit and bike culture always at the forefront, we’re seeing more and more weddings go car-free.

Congratulations to Cassie and Brad on #brassie17! This wedding is extra special to me, as it involves many people who I’m lucky to know personally. It’s always fun to get to do a wedding with friends. Cassie and Brad were married in the Ballroom at McMenamins Edgefield on a lovely spring April day in the Troutdale/Columbia River Gorge area, Oregon.

{ Photo of the Day } Happy Anniversary to Kathleen and David!

I can’t believe it was only a year ago we were at Oaks Pioneer Church and the Elysian Ballroom celebrating Kathleen and David’s wedding reception. A little rain didn’t dampen the happy couple’s spirits!

{ Photo of the Day } Light and Shadow at Zenith Vineyard

It’s a bright fall November day in Portland, so I thought I would post something with a harvest vibe. Today’s photo comes from David Barss, taken at Zenith Vineyard in 2012. Jeanne and Korash were married towards the end of the summer and I just love the interplay between light and shadow that makes for an atypical couples’ photo.

{ Real Weddings } A Multnomah Falls Lodge Wedding

Columbia-gorge-wedding-multnomah-falls

Today’s real wedding was photographed by Scott McNamara. We helped Lauren and Kurt from Chicago plan an Oregn destination wedding weekend at Multnomah Falls Lodge. With this type of scenery you really don’t need any other decor!

Their ceremony was held on the patio surrounded by forest and the falls in the background; the reception was held inside the historic 1925 lodge Great Hall, with its soaring ceilings and crackling fireplace.

{ Real Weddings } Happy Anniversary Mauro and Ken!

Happy anniversary to these lovely grooms! We were thrilled to be a part of their wedding a private riverfront Wilsonville estate last year. Family and friends contributed flowers from their farm, and the grooms provided the wine from their Sherwood winery. A farm-to-table dinner buffet was created by Valley Commissary Catering, and the guests danced the night away to Pura Vida Orquestra, honoring the Cuban heritage of Mauro’s family. Many happy returns to the couple!

{ Real Weddings } Erika and Lionel’s Wedding at The Grotto and The Nines

  Portland-outdoor-wedding-the-grotto
Erika and Lionel came up to Portland from sunny LA to have a subtly-Hello Kitty-themed wedding at the The Grotto with reception at The Nines Hotel. As soon as she said “Hello Kitty” you know I was already SO THERE for everything. I was also super excited to help them combine Erika’s Mexican cultural and family traditions with Lionel’s Filipino heritage. Some of these traditions were expressed in the traditional Filipino Catholic ceremony, complete with veil, cord, and coins ceremonies; and in having a cumbia band at the reception. All in all, it was an exciting, whirlwind day with lots of love, great food, and dancing; and we were so lucky to be there to help with it.
Many thanks to Evrim Icoz Photography for sending these wonderful photos. For the full gallery on Facebook, please visit Evrim Icoz Photography.

{ Featured in Portland Bride and Groom } Real Weddings – Erica and Rohan

Been meaning to blog about this one for a while! I was so pleased to pick up the most recent issue of Portland Bride and Groom magazine to find one of our weddings from last summer featured.

Erica and Rohan planned a traditional church ceremony at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a surprise Sri Lankan (Sinhalese) ceremony, called a poruwa, at their reception location of Castaway. They chose a multitude of wonderful details, from the vintage double decker bus to take guests from church to reception, to the modern geometric details of the wedding cake from AK Cake Design. For a full vendor list and all the photos, follow the link to the magazine article. There's even a video from Moving Pictures!

Thank you again, Erica and Rohan, for letting us be a part of such a big day, and many thanks to Portland Bride and Groom for featuring such a unique wedding.
